MAVERICK Helps Deliver OEA’s ‘Project of the Year’ for Chevron Oil Production
COLUMBIA, Ill., December 22, 2005 — MAVERICK’s participation in Chevron’s Benguela Belize drilling and production platform in Angola is receiving accolades as the undertaking was named “Project of the Year” by the Offshore Energy Association.
The project received this prestigious award at an industry event in early December, 2005. John Watson, President of Chevron International Exploration and Production, praised the project team — including MAVERICK — for successfully managing the engineering challenges they encountered.
The structure, which sits in 1,300 feet of water and features a compliant piled tower with topsides weighing over 40,000 tons, was completed within budget, ahead of schedule, and in a safe manner.
The Benguela Belize platform will begin production in early 2006, and is capable of producing up to 220,000 barrels of oil a day. It is the first structure of its kind outside of the Gulf of Mexico, and one of the largest such structures in the world.
Naturally, this platform is significant for Chevron, and for the oil industry as a whole. Flawless, timely and efficient execution was critical, and MAVERICK’s contributions to the talents of the design team played a major role in the project's success.
