Shamrock Farms:
Control System Retrofit Ensures Consistency, Efficiency and Minimal Product Loss
MAVERICK Technologies recently completed a major retrofit project at Shamrock Farms, a large fluid milk plant in Phoenix. The plant's Honeywell control system had become obsolete, so spare parts were scarce and breakdowns often caused a full day of unexpected downtime.
MAVERICK replaced the legacy system with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix control panels, HTST legal control panels and seven secure-access HMIs running Wonderware InTouch. The team put in new conduit and stainless steel tubing to allow for easy cutovers and replaced all wiring, cables and poly tubing. MAVERICK managed the entire project with the added challenge of performing the work in an active dairy plant that receives 4 million pounds of milk a day. The state legal inspection and certification typically take up to eight hours per unit, but MAVERICK completed these checks in under five hours total for all three pasteurizing units. MAVERICK also installed a CIP Editor for more accurate, efficient CIP circuit management.
Shamrock Farms commended MAVERICK for meeting all project requirements and ensuring PMO compliance within an extremely tight timeframe. The improved controls ensure consistent, repeatable processing, helping the plant reduce product loss. Plus, the scalable solution will easily accommodate future growth, and the training MAVERICK provided ensures the plant's independency and self-sufficiency going forward.
