MAVERICK Technologies Speaks out on Automation Standards in Food Engineering Magazine

Columbia, Ill., Feb. 20, 2008 — MAVERICK Technologies, a next-generation engineering, systems integration and operational consulting firm, offers advice on automation best practices in the February 2008 issue of Food Engineering magazine.

Dean Ford, MAVERICK’s director of food and beverage automation solutions, explains why it is largely impossible for many plants to standardize their automation projects. Every project is unique, and the effort of establishing code libraries, templates and Systems and Automation Society (ISA) standards is impractical for single-location plants.

However, personnel can help a plant apply standards to its processes. Ford states that automation systems can help companies not only reduce staff, but also improve data collection and free plant-floor personnel so they can train their peers. Staff involvement in the automation process is key to project success, Ford concludes.
